installing a .patch file


I have a filename.patch file that I need to install. How do you install .patch files?

What are you trying to patch?
usually you extract a tarball or however the sourcecode
came. Have the patch in the same directory and issue a

patch -p0 < filename.patch

try

man patch

for more detail
