Installing 32 bit SUSE 10 in 64 bit machine


Hi Everyone

Mine is a 64 bit system.
I dont have 64 bit SUSE but i have SUSE 10 for 32bit
Can I install it in my comp???
Will it make any big diference?

The purpose of installing linux in my machine is to run a webserver
like apache with servlet support and connect it to mysql database.....and any related things.


WILL MY OBJECTIVE GETS SATISFIED IF I INSTALL 32BIT SUSE IN 64BITS COMP

The main advantage of installing 64 bit SuSE is that you can use more than 2GB of memory. This may be important for a busy webserver. Since you are two versions behind anyway, you might want to download the 64 bit version of SuSE 10.2. To answer your question, I think you will get a warning but if you are using AMD64 (x86_64) then you can install the 32 bit version. If you have the Itanium chip, then you need to install the 64 bit version. Intel purchased the plans for the AMD64 because they painted themselves in a corner with the Itanium chip. So the newer 64 bit Intel chips will also run 32 bit software.
