The main advantage of installing 64 bit SuSE is that you can use more than 2GB of memory. This may be important for a busy webserver. Since you are two versions behind anyway, you might want to download the 64 bit version of SuSE 10.2. To answer your question, I think you will get a warning but if you are using AMD64 (x86_64) then you can install the 32 bit version. If you have the Itanium chip, then you need to install the 64 bit version. Intel purchased the plans for the AMD64 because they painted themselves in a corner with the Itanium chip. So the newer 64 bit Intel chips will also run 32 bit software.
