"installed (manual)" in Synaptic = ?

In Synaptic, I noticed a new category of installed software--"installed (manual)." What does it mean?

Installed (manual)
Seems to be all packages from the live cd.
They are not really packages, but a complete backup
of the installed Ubuntu OS from the vendors computer.

You can check with :
ls -tl /var/lib/dpkg/info/ | grep list > last.txt
Then : cp last.txt first.txt
and delete all lines dated later than the install time
in the file first.txt
And cut away time etc.: < first.txt cut -c 47- > first-cut.txt
.. to get a list, which can be sorted alphabetic.
And sort : sort first-cut.txt > first-cut-sort.txt ,
.. which is the list to compare with "Installed (manual)"
.....
