installation halts at "ide1 at 0x170-0x177 . . . "

Hi there. I am reincarnating an old win95 box into a more useful existence.

The RH7.3 installation halts at
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15

I have also tried a Mandrake disk which halts at the same spot. It just sits there. I guess this must be a hardware issue?

hdd= quantum bigfoot
mainboard= J-TX98 R2
cpu= 233mhz
ram= 32

Any suggestions to what i could try to get installed?

the bios is one of those standard Award Bios' (1998). Under PNP/PCI configuration there are options to set IRQ-14 to Legacy ISA or PCI/ISA Pnp.

You think that is relevant somehow?
Why do u think it is stopping there?

It would appear to be an IRQ conflict, as it assigns an interrupt then stops. Is it possible to allow the IRQs to be assigned at boot time instead of specifying them.
