install suse 9 from local hard disk

can i download the exect files and folders from suse 9 mirror and then put it into ext3 partition(my rh9 partition) with the exact file structure and install it from local disk?

and how do i do that?

let say i download the iso and burn to cd and download the exact tree from suse mirror into
redhat 9 partition/SUSE9/[the files tree from mirror]

how do i install it from there?
can i boot into the iso and then type

linux install=redhat 9 partition/SUSE9/[the files tree from mirror]

Hello demmylls,

sure you can.

All you have to do is download the complete Suse 9 install (i386) and place it somewhere on your harddisk.
Burn the image in bootdisk and boot from it.
After booting, you can select Manual installation where you can choose to install from ftp, network or local harddisk.
If you choose local harddisk, just tell Suse 9 install where it can find the files and install takes over from there.

If you have any troubles, let me know.

Cheers,
dSn.

I just put installed suse from my hard drive last night after the downloads finished. I chose the hard drive install method because my burner went on the fritz, and the ftp install wouldn't work for me for some reason. If you go to /i386/current/boot on one of the mirrors, you'll find all the info you'll need for either floppy or Cd boot. I just went looking for the installation guideline and it seems to be missing.

I thought you couldn't download SUSE and burn it to disk. I mean the ISO's. That's what somebody told me anyway.......If this is wrong, somebody please let me know. I'm dying to try SUSE, since I've been only using Mandy9.1.
Thanks,
RANDON
