install new kernel problem with initramfs-tools

Hi there
I want to install linux-image-2.6.18-1-686 , currently I have a 2.6.17-2-686

after doing apt-get install linux-image-2.6.18-1-686 , I get these errors:

Finding valid ramdisk creators.
2.6.18-1-686 on running kernel 2.6.17-2-686 in /usr/sbin/mkinitrd.yaird

(and dpkg errors due to installation fail...)

I tried to install initramfs-tools ahead with the linux-image too , still getting the same error

Thanks for help.
