install lilo to floppy

Ok, before every1 screams at me to use google and use the forum search function... I already did! lol

Anyway, I installed Vector Linux and I have College Linux installed on another box. I am not a fan of lilo, but this is what they use. Right now lilo is installed on both mbr's. I'd like to create a lilo boot floppy for them, but it doesn't seem to work.

I have tried using different floppy disks and each of the two boxes and both times, it just puts the floppy light on for a few seconds, copies nothing (when I check) and then just sits there. I tried to boot with it and it just gives me this:
01 01 01 01 01 01.. and so on for about 10 lines and then just sits there doing s.f.a.

I have tried installing lilo to the floppy disks using /sbin/lilo and liloconfig which starts the lilo installer and asks me after a few steps where to install lilo - so I say THE FLOPPY DRIVE!!! but it never works. I tried it during the Vector Linux install and then from X in both CL and Vector.

Anyone know why this is not working?
I could be missing something simple as I am not used to lilo at all, if I use anything, it is grub, but I normally use floppies.

Thanks in advance.

If you don't like lilo, why would you want it on a floppy?

Perhaps i don't understand, but if you just want to boot your two linux boxes with floppy's you can easily make a custom disk for each and bypass lilo altogether.

It's as simple as dd'ing your kernel directly to your floppy drive ie: /dev/fd0

You will want to run rdev on your kernel first to double check that it points to the right root device.

I believe that kde has a tool for making bootdisks from a gui as well, so that may be an option for you. Can't remember what it's called offhand though...sorry.

If you want to make your bootdisks using dd let me know and i'll help with the specifics.

I see that there is a place to create a floppy in red hat 7.3 but not in any other distro that I have used.
I don't really like lilo, but I just figured that because I was using it for each of the distros (imposed on me) that I had to use the same.
One system is dual boot: win 98 and Vector
the other is just College Linux. I don't suppose that matters though.
I just wish the floppy creating tool worked with /sbin/lilo or liloconfig like it was supposed to, but it doesn't.
