Individual Workspace for Multiple Monitors

I've been working on a multiple monitor setup using Gentoo running on a laptop. The resulting config (I can share it if people would like) works having the DFL/CRT showing two separate displays with different screen resolutions on each spanned together with one workspace. However this creates a problem for ANYTHING operating in full screen mode (mplayer, etc), any windows I maximize, or any window manager functions that try to center themselves on the screen. (Engage is humorously located on the bottom left of one of the screens.)

My Question:
Does anyone know of a setup that would allow for unique workspaces bound under one X server to two separate displays? This would solve so many issues with the overall design of multiple monitor solutions.

I had the same problem with my triple headed gentoo system try adding xcinerama to your use flags in your /etc/make.conf file and:

emerge --newuse --update world

that fixed it for me but you might have to update your xorg.conf
