My income will soon be related to my work with linux.
I'm just curious about linux and how it relates to your income.
I have been out of work for just over 2 years, and I'm currently feverishly trying to become linux-knowledgeable enough to find a new income stream.
I'm not necessarily asking for advice in this poll, just asking if others are making money as a direct result of linux abilities.
I would certainly like to have my income affected (positively) by my knowledge of linux, but I'm working as a Computer tech in a company that only does MS business computers. Not exactly the best environment to make a profit off my knowledge of an alternative OS, neh?
But as soon as I can find a job where they need/appreciate my newfound skills, boy-howdy will I enjoy it
It would be nice to find a job with Linux (or at least some type of Unix - Solaris, FreeBSD, etc).
I am trapped in a firm with Windows (and they won't open ).
And unfortunately, I now have SCO standing in my way.
I work on the mainframe, but I find I do a lot of scut work on Cygwin and linux so I guess my income is partially derived from work I do on linux
We're mostly an M$ shop here (it bites) but we do have some linux servers (I'm told)...so far no one has complained about 1) my Cygwin install, 2) my using Open Office instead of the installed M$Office, 3) my laptop running linux being on the network.
I've had only two jobs so far... In the first , I was hired to be the network administrator of a network running linux (but the network was made of only 2 computers ). This explains why I left that job exactly after one month there... Now I'm working in my university , in a mixed network (we have windows , macs , linux and solaris - the macs are soon to be debian-powered , as the linux machines we have).
So far , linux has been a good way to earn money for me
