in need of small (smaller than damnsmall) distro

after failed attempts in loading DSL and Feather.. i find out that 8mb of ram is not enough..

what would be the best distro available for a p75 running on 8megs of ram? i also have a 500mb hd.. preferably using X..?

thnx

8 megs is really small!!! I don't think you will ever be able to run X. If you do, please let us know how you did it. And the 500MB too! Depends no what you want to do with that computer...

Have you tried Linux From Scratch?

Bah! 8 Megs is plenty enough to run X! Check out mulinux . It's possible, and it works pretty fast, too. It just can't run KDE or Gnome very well. Stick with something like FVWM or Black/Flux/Open Box.

yes, but doesn't mulinux use a different c library (not GNU) ... one of em smaller ones

might be want you could need

8 MB is plenty to run Slackware in.

Check out the 4MB Laptop HOWTO. I successfully installed Slackware 8.1 on a Compaq Contura Laptop (486/33mhz, 8MB of RAM, 270MB hdd), with PCMCIA support, and a working NIC. I got it done in under 100MB; it didn't include X, but it was a GREAT SSH client.
