In Gnome, how can I create a menu that points to a folder

In about a month I'm opening a new store and we are gonna be offering Debian and Ubuntu systems on servers and rebuilds (I'm in charge of it). One problem I see though is after I install a program with apt-get it doesn't always create menu items for it in GNOME. For me it was never an issue but for an end-user it's a major problem. I was wondering if anyone has a workaround.

You create launchers ... put them on the desktop or in a panel.

I have no problem doing this but for end-users who don't know how a file structure even works this is asking too much. I expect them to want to install apps themselves.

You could always not install apps that dont create menu items. This is easy. Pretty much every app, until you click the advance button creates a menu item.

Or you could search. Places-> Search for files.

Or you could personally repackage every app that doesnt create a start menu item.

If you're thinking about creating a shortcut folder to /usr/bin or something like that, don't bother. Theres like a billion executables and that will confuse your users more.
