images of my harddisk how?


I hav problems to find a nice images ( ghost ) program to my Ubuntu Dappper Linux box, my problem is to find one where i can crate a images to a ISO cd on 700mb's bot how can i doe it?

plz help me, i relly need help to this stuff.

The traditional method would be to use 'dd'. It can create images of block devices.

man dd

You can also use mkisofs, which is part of the cdrecord family of tools. It can be used to make a file-oriented ISO image of your filesystem. I would guess that you already have this if your distribution is fairly complete and recent.

Okay if i use the can i so boot the "ISO" cd and recovre my harddisk back to where i crate the backup?

making a disk image is not the same as creating a bootable CD....

First, will your entire Ubuntu installation fit on 700MB? I don't think so. To "Ghost" the whole thing, you need another hard drive--at least for an image that will eventually go on a CD.

Note that dd will do a literal copy--device to device. Or it will write to a file.
