Unhappy IEEE 1394/Digital Camcorder

Is there an easy to setup/easy to use program out there to
transfer video from my camcorder to the PC? I have a Sony
DCR-TRV830. It uses FireWire/IEEE1394 to transfer. I haven't
been able to find out very much info on the protocol. Do any
of the kernels support it? Has anyone successfully transferred
Digital Video from their camcorder to their PC in Linux?

I have a dual boot system, and would like to stop having to go
back to Microsuck but so far I have no choice if I want to
get the video from my camcorder to my PC. Please, anyone help!

I'd be interested if you find a solution, I've got a Panasonic Digital Camcorder, I don't even have windows to go back to, so the only option is for Linux to handle it.

I never tried it myself but I once came across this site: http://www.kuro5hin.org/?op=displays.../31/18749/1930 about video capture off analog and digital devices.. might be of some help.
