I need to run a linux program on windows
Does anyone know of a way to run linux on a windows machine? I'm curerently running Windows 98 and Windows 2000 and I need to run umb-scheme. Is there any way without actually installing Linux???

You can get away without installing Linux. But you would need to use CygWin.

some solutions i can think about:
- If you have any linux machine in you LAN you can use it with windows with a ssh client (putty), transfer the files to the other machine using ssh, and run the program on them if you need, this is the easiest way, its how i do it in my home. - you can use a live cd like Slax to run it, make a slackware package with umb-scheme, convert the package to a .img file, edit slax iso and put the image in it, burn the cd, and if everything went fine you can boot slax on your windows partition and use umb-scheme. - install linux in another HDD or partition, boot linux, run the program on your windows HDD/partition. - There is also ZipSlack, it pretty small and can be installed in FAT32 partitions, but i have never tested it. |
