i need to non-destructively resize a windows ntfs partition

Hey all,

I have an 80gb hard drive partitioned in the following manor:

60gb ntfs (15gb used)
20gb unpartitioned

What I would really like to do is resize the ntfs partition to 30gb and have 50gb of unpartitioned space for Gentoo

Are there any free tools that I can use that will NON-DESTRUCTIVELY resize the ntfs partition. I have found several tools that will resize the NTFS partition, but all of them say "please make a backup of your drive before proceeding"... in case any of the sectors that are moved over to unpartitioned space contain data of course.

Are there any tools to move all the data within a certain sector... or any tools that will tell me the greatest i can resize it without screwing up data?

I just want to move more data for gentoo without screwing anything up.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
George

This is a warning just in case--sort of like when establishments say "We will not be responsible for lost or stolen possessions." It doesn't mean it's a high crime area, necessarily. They just don't want to be sued for it, and theft or loss occasionally happens. For the most part (I'd say around 90% of the time), QTParted, DiskDrake, or Partition Magic will not damage your NTFS when resizing. Nevertheless, you should always back up your data.

Yes, definitely! Knoppix (a live CD) and Mepis (a live CD and installer CD) both have QTParted. In fact, you're not supposed to use QTParted in an installed Linux because the partition it's installed on will be "mounted." You want the operation (the partition) to be completely separate from the operator (QTParted).
