I need help setting up IRCD with Yast2 in SUSE 10

I am a longtime computer user, but never a programmer and new to Linux. I would like to set up an IRC server that I and my friends will be able to use. I have a few questions that I would be very grateful for help with. Even if all I get is directions to where the answers live, that would rock. I've spent a few hours with google already, and I don't feel any closer to a solution.

1. How can I make sure it's running? Everytime I fire up xinetd inside YaST2, it shows the "Disable" radio button selected. I select "Enable," toggle the IRCD status to "on," edit, accept and finish, and the next time I open it up it's back to "Disable." What's up with that?

2. How can I tell what my server's name and domain are? I'm sure I set these myself during installation, but now I'm clueless as to what they are.

3. Where is the IRCD user's guide? When I type man ircd all I get is a very brief description of the available options for use when starting IRCD manually. I guess I could email Jarkko, but he's probably busy. Even after searching the Web I am unable to find a detailed guide for use. The SUSE Help Center also provided no information.

Thanks,
Sean

Answers not specific to Suse and I have never used IRCD but I will try to help.

1. Run pgrep ircd or ps aux | grep ircd
2. This should be set in /etc/ircd.conf
3. Does this help? http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/IRC/

pgrep ircd showed me that IRCD is indeed running. I was able to edit the ircd.conf file so that the server now has a name.

And that certainly looks like the user guide for IRC.

Thank you. That was very helpful!
