I need a cd that will boot my usb thumb drive
I need a cd that will boot my usb drive. I would also like a floppy for this, but the cd is more important.
The system is DSL-hdinstall on a 1 gig Lexar Jumpdrive Elite, it is not the usb drive install, I did an hd install then moved it over
If anyone could tell me how to make that sort of a cd

Um, try http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/talk/node/60 or http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/talk/node/93, but I'm not sure that's what you want.
If you can boot the machine with the CD, then you're set: just plug the USB drive before booting, and DSL will recognize it, so you can mount it and use its space for a MyDSL partition (I'm guessing here).
IF what you want is a floppy or CD with the minimum info to boot the USB drive, then the second URL I posted should do the trick (he's using a Zip drive, but a USB drive should work as well).
In http://www.goosee.com/puppy/ (Puppy Linux) there's info about making a booting floppy to mount a USB drive, as well.

You COULD set it up to boot from the USB device in the bios. But thats only with newer boards.

Bios support doesent function, and I followed the instructions at
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/talk/node/93
but it diddent make any difference, also, what do those instructions have you put on the fat16 partition? He doesent mention what to use on the "boot partition". If I knew what to put there I could make this all work =(
