i hope slackware people read this
 

i was installing slackware

i got past the copying files to hd thing

and when it asked what kernel or something i wanted, i accidently clicked ok on floppy, it led me to a screen where i could only press ok, so i did, and that put me in a command line thing where i could type anything, but it did nothing, so i had to reboot and start the entire installation from scratch.

i installed from a 4x dvd-rom, took me a veeeeery long time :(

So did you have a question or was this for our benefit?
 

Was the thing before or after the other thing? Was it the first OK thing or the thing after that one?

Actually you don't have to reboot and start from scratch in Slackware when installing. At times you can actually go back into setup and redo the options in the setup menu bypassing all the other steps at times when its finished and tells you that you can reboot the system to boot Slack, you know, after it asks to set the root password..

But I guess if you reinstalled, its too late for that now.

Also, you may want to post Slackware specific problems in the Slackware forum we have here. :)

Even if you cannot get back to shell from the setup program, you *are* using a minimal linux system for the setup process. You can go to a vconsole via ALT-F2, then kill the installation process.

Also, as urinal cake said, you did not even tell us what the problem is beyond "this thingy here and clicky this thingy there".

i presume this is some sort of... warning?? :confused: shame about the title...

I've learnt most of what It took for me to make linux my primary OS (damn near my only OS-I even got Halflife/TFC running under winex again) mostly on my own, using the information on the web. I have one linux guru buddy who, though he does IT all day, manages to be patient and helpful with my ignorant question. I've found, over the last year, that most of the umm...."blunt" or "unhelpful" or maybe even "hostile" experienced linux users were right. You really can get pretty damn far in linux using just what's already on the Web. Thank God for the net. Why give a guy directions when he'll find the answer himself if he just looks a little further? Of course, some of the most valuable resources are in forums or newsgroups, but most of the questions I've had have already been aswered somewhere.
