I have a bunch of partitions. If one becomes full, can i take some from an empty one?

Say i have:
/
/boot
/home
/var
/usr
<swap>

If /usr becomes totally full, can i allocate space from /home and add it to /usr.

Thanks as always.

you could probably add symlinks.. but couldn't physically add more space to the existing without repartitioning and reformatting.. but i am unsure if symlinks would even work.. possibly, maybe someone else knows for a definite sure..
