I feel a little silly asking this...

Ok I know Ive done an ftp and downloaded files before but now I cant seem to find the files even after telling ftp to dump em in /home/localuser.

The terminal displayed that it was a successfull transfer, but why whould it have dumped the files elsewhere?

This is what I used:

get glib+-1.2.19.tar.gz /home/localuser

try an:
updatedb
locate glib+-1.2.19.tar.gz

and it will tell you where it is.

If its not there, you did something wrong.

Ive never used the "get" command though, I always use "wget".

I ran wget and it tells me its an invalid command...

I ran

ftp> get glib-1.2.10.tar.gz /home/psyklops
local: /home/psyklops remote: glib-1.2.10.tar.gz
227 Entering Passive Mode (128,32,112,248,185,86)
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for glib-1.2.10.tar.gz (421480 bytes).
local: /home/psyklops: Is a directory
226 File send OK.
500 Unknown command.

And when I check my home dir, the file is not there...

I believe you have to complete that with the name of the file...

However, I prefer to use:
mget
It stands for "Multiple File Get" but works good for getting even a single file as it will prompt with the name of the file to grab, and even the location on the local server of where to put it. Good stuff.

Cool

MasterC is, as usual, correct.: you have to specify the entire destination filename as in:

ftp> get glib-1.2.10.tar.gz /home/psyklops/glib-1.2.10.tar.gz

When I'm using the FTP client, I usually change to the destination directory I want to put files in before using the "get" command, like this:

ftp> lcd /home/psyklops/
ftp> get glib-1.2.10.tar.gz

I just do a bit less typing that way. The "lcd" command stands for "local change directory".
