Question i don't have a desktop environment


After the installation of SuSe 8.0 Pro I didn't get a graphical but a sort of text environment (like unix). Please help me, how can I get that graphical environment?

type startx, see what happens. if X doesn't come up post the error.

hmm...

There is an option to not install a graphical enviroment. Reinstall it and make sure you select it with a graphical enviroment. Otherwise, you'd better brush up on your greps and chmods.

normal a user wont need to use grep or chmod (especial dont use chmod if your new to linux as it can realy hurt your system)

id say start thinking about cutomizing the shell
