Hi rex,

I can't see whats wrong.

You might try the following:

---------------------------------------
[ root] adduser test
[ root] passwd test
...
[ root] exit

# login as test
login: test
passwd:
[ test] startx
-> does it work or do you have same problem?
----------------------------------------
If this doesn't work... I see your running a laptop. Laptops are pretty difficult to configure, but chances are alot of people have had simular problems with same type of laptop: try:

http://www.linux-laptop.net/

And search your labtop type.
Chances are they have useful information about configuration, and problems.

------------------------------------------
Also I see you've been configuring alot, from your previous posts, and that it had been working in the past.

What was the last thing you did before it started behaving this way? chances are (in fact thats the way computers work) that that made it hang like it does, so undoing this could help.

Some other tips:
Before doing a major configuration change do the following in console:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
[root@localhost /] cd /
[root@localhost /] tar -cvf etc.backup_ok.tar /etc
....
[root@localhost /] ls -la etc.backup_ok.tar

-rwr--r-- etc.backup_ok.tar
---------------------------------------------------------------------
tar: c = create archive
v = be verbose (more info shown)
f = file name
This creates a backup of your computers configuration. (All configuration files end up in /etc directory you see). So if everything seems to be working "ok" then make a backup.

If something gets broken then you can always get your old settings back with:

# First create a back-up of the broken up configuration (just in case make a backup before rewriting everything):
------------------------------------
[root@localhost /] cd /
[root@localhost /] tar -cvf etc.backup_fckup.tar /etc

# Now place the files you know are ok back:
[root@localhost /] tar -xvf etc.backup_ok.tar
...start testing ok configuration...
------------------------------------
tar: x = extract.

This way you always can get ok settings back.

Getting your bad config back goes like this:
mv /etc /etc_still_not_ok
tar -xvf etc.backup_fckup.tar
...start testing fckup.tar....

I hope you can see the logic of this all....

If you know "which file" is being changed, then you only have to backup that file, of course:
cp XF86Config-4 XF86Config-4.bak_ok
cp XF86Config XF86Config.bak_ok

I also see youv'e installed chinese/ japanese input stuff.... I don't know anything about this.... but it seems that its not loading ok,
maybe theres something wrong with the font paths... but im just guessing now... Your probably better off looking at japanese sites if you think this could be a problem... but your guess is better than mine....

Sorry can't help your more.
