I can install icon themes KDE 3.0

I can't seem to install icon themes in KDE 3.0.2. When you install KDE 3.0 do you need to remove KDE 2.2.2 or does that need to be on your computer for KDE 3.0 to work? Any way when I try installing the theme, only one theme appears in the list KDE-hicolor theme. Any ideas would be great, I don't know if it is a permissions issue or I have to install the theme by command line. When I log into my computer as root, it seems to load KDE 2.2. SO feed back would be great if any one know the answer.

How do you install icon theme?
It may be that, when you have 2 different versions of KDE, themes are installed into dirs of KDE 2.2, not KDE 3.0.2.

I just go to Control Center select Look and Feel then icons. Browse to the directory where I untar the files and point it at the IconeName.desktop file. Then press apply and nothing is add to the icon screen and nothing changes.

Try to copy unstarred icons to your kde icon dir (when compiled from source it's /usr/local/kde/share/icons ).

I have untar then in that location. That's where they reside right now. Still doesn't put it in the list of available themes.

Are they in a separate directory?

When you browse to the .desktop or better yet to the tar try clicking on the install new theme button and that should add it to the list, you should then be able to apply it.

I've tried both things as well with no results
