Hylafax problem

Hi

I am new to Linux and Hylafax however i was tempted by the features hylafax has to offer. I installed the software and ran "faxsetup" to configure it. Although I am able to dial out using wvdial using the modem installed at /dev/ttyS0, I am not able to dial out with cu according to the link http://www.hylafax.org/content/Handb...ing_your_Modem

When I run cu -l ttyS0 or cu -l /dev/ttyS0, i get a "Line in use" error. Where do I start? We know the modem is working and that linux sees it because of wvdial. Here is the info returned by wvdialconf

ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 Z -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 &FCLASS=0 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: Modem Identifier: ATI -- LT V.92 1.0 MT5634ZBA-V92 Serial Data/Fax Modem Version 1.32b
ttyS0<*1>: Speed 48000: AT --OK
ttyS0<*1>: Speed 9600: AT --OK
ttyS0<*1>: Speed 19200: AT --OK
ttyS0<*1>: Speed 38400: AT --OK
ttyS0<*1>: Speed 57600: AT --OK
ttyS0<*1>: Speed 115200: AT --OK
ttyS0<*1>: Max Speed is 115200; that should be safe.
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 &FCLASS=0 -- OK
ttyS1...
....
....
Modem Port Scan <*1>: S2 S3 S4 S5 S6 S7
then it tries to test ttyS1 and fails (ok i think)

Environment:
- Open suse 11.3
- KDE
- Multitech modem as you can see above.

Any help is greatly appreciated
