hwclock problems =[

Hey guys, once more I'm in need of help. My distro is Slack 10.1 and I randomly decided to download/compile/and install the latest 2.6 kernel. Besides the OTHER problem of the 2.6 kernel not detecting my NIC card (netgear FA311 rev b1) another problem has arisen as a result.

When I boot back into 2.4 everything except the TIME is normal! The date is ok, just the time is off. I've used the hwclock --set --date="proper string here" to set it but ALWAYS get the error "select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out". I can run this command under the 2.6 kernel for some reason and it doesn't give an error, however it has no persistant effect because when I boot into 2.4 again, the clock is still wrong.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated on this, as various apps depend on time and I'm having some issues as a result.

P.S. IF anyone has ideas as to what driver I need to include in the 2.6 kernel during the menuconfig stage to get my NIC card supported I'd be very greatful. I've tried a bunch of "TULIP" drivers to no avail.

The FA311 uses the natsemi module. I assume this still to be the case in 2.6 kernel distros.

No idea about the clock.
