I have many Linux Live cd but only knoppix can be installed on hard disk. Could you guide me to install Lindows, vnlinux.. on hard d. manually ?
I guess that I must copy the whole root fs after booting on these live os on hard disk.
The Live CD version of a distro is not really intended to be used as a Linux installation CD. If you want to install Linux to your hard drive, why not just use the normal installation disks -- J.W.
I can't buy them easily in my country, download take too much time and exceed my connection capacity. So I must profit of some old live cd from my sisters. But each time logging on livecd, I must reinstall reconfigure. Could you mind giving a stepwise guide .
Knoppix is my one and only choice regarding Live CD's. Please check out http://bofh.be/clusterknoppix/knx-install.htm for info about how to install it to hard disk. I don't know about the other distros, good luck with it either way -- J.W.
Thank you . The problem is I am having Lindows.
I will make guesses , could you improve them .
1. boot on Lindows
2. cp all files on / where the ram disk is mounted to the hard disk.
3. add these lines to menu.lst:
title Lindows on hard disk
root (hd0,1)
kernel Linux-2.6.13
When choosing the above kernel at startup, it will look for config files which cause problems because maybe some config file will contain path to the cdrom which is already removed. I could not know how many files must I edit (one of them might me fstab). Could you help to procced this way .
