howto identify what services are running via CLI?

top reports everything that is running, but i only want to see what exact services are running on a server so i know what to restart instead of rebooting the entire server.

i know that httpd = web server, but that is the only service i know by name in linux. M$ made me dumb. in that i just point and click the GUI, but the Whitebox 3 server i had someone help me setup is pure CLI, and i plan to keep it that way.

we use qmail and it seems to drop clients randomly and i need to restart that service, but i constantly get unknow service when i try:

service smtp restart
service smtpd restart
service qmail-smtp restart
service qmail-smtpd restart

so i just shutdown -r now and in less then 30secs everything is fine again, but id much rather learn how to identify the services that are running so i can deal with them properly.

thanks for the help.

The following command will show the services configured in the /etc/rc[0-6]. See man pages for additional info.
chkconfig --list

If scrolling to fast then use:
chkconfig --list | more
