howto add users to group?

with lots of help i set up a NFS server on my gaming box to share out the family movies to my media box. the issue is my normal user on the gaming box does not have access to the shares on its own system.

i have 2 full hard drives shared out to the LAN that both my laptop and media box have 100% access to, but...not my normal user on that box.

how do i go about adding my normal user to that proper group. also how do i go about finding out what that group is called to add my user.

distro = debian-sarge. the NFS server and the laptop are both 2.6.8 kernel, with the media box 2.4.14 custom kernel. had to customize it for the MB to gain access to the DMA on the drives. again had loads of help with that project.

Thank you.

/etc/group and /etc/passwd should give you the info you need, also the appropriate manuals. The command to add a user to a certain group would be (if you dont want to do it manually in the aforementioned files)
Code:
# as root
usermod -G group-to-add username
