How to wipe linux history?

Hi people,

I just want to know which files /directorys to delete to protect my privacy in linux.

i.e - In windows 98 i wipe the following folders and files

c:\windows\temp
c:\windows\history
c:\windows\tempory internet files
c:\windows\applog
c:\windows\win386.swp (from dos!)

What are the equvilants in Linux, i use Mandrake Linux (9.2) and am using Mozilla Firefox (great browser!).

Also is there a program which securly erases files , i.e eraser in windows http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/

For Firefox;

Tools - Options - Privacy - Clear all - Clear all information - ok

Most of these things are found in /var and /tmp for machine-wide data
and .dot files/directories on the user's home dir for per-user data.

Please dear linux user, i just got linux today and i have the same questions as the user above that has firefox...i have Debian with a Mozilla browser...
