How to uninstall previous versions?

This is just a quick question that i need to ask you guys........ How do you uninstall an earlier version of a program once you've installed a later version of it? For example, I just downloaded the new gaim 0.74 and i need to uninstall the earlier version of gaim already installed on my com... how do i do that?

Thanks - Timberwolf

You can specify the version number

rpm -e gaim-0.whatever
