Unhappy How to uninstall a software?


I hava installed a lot of software,such as mozilla,JDK,but I didn't know how to uninstall those software.

please give me some advice.

It depends how you installed them. If you installed them as RPM packages, you use the command

rpm -e packagename

If you compiled them from source, things get a bit more complicated...

Too bad it's not just ./unconfigure; un-make; un-make install

Assuming the package author made provision for it you can do "make uninstall" in the directory with your origional source code.

I prefer to build a package (rpm/deb/etc) for my system if I'm compiling from source.

If you compiled them yourself, and there is no uninstall or list of files in the software directory, you can find some of them using the command locate keyword, with keyword being something common in the software name. Then just remove them one by one. At least that's what I do. A few of them slip by. Locate won't work for something very recent though. You may have to give it a day.

the updatedb command will update the database locate uses. remember to unmount any cds and windows filesystems first (unless you want all those files in the database that is...)
