How to start up:

Hi all,

Well, I have been trying to find an answer to my questions and finally decided to put it here.

I have an idea of a website, it is a simple website that needs PHP/MySQL and some JS. I have tried to learn these stuff myself and I did a good job, but the learning curve is a little bit higher that I expected.

I also tried some people to help me, and after "paying some money" I lost a good sum ( I used the web to contact them)

Now my questions are:
  1. How may I save the rights of my idea to myself when I talk to someone about it? (a programmer/developer, any other one)
  2. What is a nondisclosure agreement?
  3. How may I find people to work on my website and implement my idea(s). I now have no money to pay
  4. Do you have any other advice that may help me?

Well, that's what I have now in my mind. I wish you can help me.

1. Make them sign a non-compete agreement and file for any patents/trademarks you are planning on using right away.
2. Non-disclosure/non-compete agreements are a contractual obligation that binds someone to not be able to talk about any proprietary information such as code, designs, etc and prevents them from working for a competing firm within a specified amount of time.
3. Find a reputable freelance site and check references thoroughly, ask for portfolios. There was a really good article on linked in from their director of data science on how to properly interview someone in the industry. It's definitely worth a read.
4. Sit down and create an actual statement of work and cost out your project realistically. If you really want to be succesful it will require capital which you say you don't have so that is something you will to figure out how to overcome. Don't half-ass it and come up with steps along the way. Before any work begins and you pay someone to do something have a specific and measurable goal so you can hold them accountable. i.e, You hire someone to write the MySQL/PHP login function for your site, you set goals that you can measure. So in 1 week the database structure needs to be completed, in 2 weeks the PHP function needs to be written and in 3 weeks it goes into production. If your contractor doesn't meet these specific goals then he is not holding up his end of the contract and you have every legal right not to pay them if you create the contract correctly.

Hi

Thank you for your answer.
I tried to search for the article and I could not find it. I will be grateful if you can point me to it.

Thanks again,
