how to split a file in linux

hi.

I have to transfer a about 700MB file from one place to another and the only medium I have is a 128MB USB flash drive.

How can I split the file into pieces and then recreate at the other end.

I remember that in windows I used to use a program called MaxSplit which split a file into pieces which could have been fitted into individual floppies, and then recreate them with a batch file at the other end.
