how to setup db like facebook

HI,

I want to know about setting up database like Facebook using MySQL, without any slow down or timout on huge database.

i heard about Read-Only and Read-Write databases. if Facebook is running a Read-Write database, and replicating this Database to 30 miror/replicas so i think that these 30 are also Read-write because they are being in update process. it also place a table lock when updating a line.

Assuming 3000000 users access Facebook and do only login request in a second ,

My question is how MySQL or any other database performs this ?

thanks

performs like what? Which particular aspect of Facebook? Just because Facebook has lots of users?? They generally cluster database servers to provide higher capacity. Moreover though they achieve it by having a good number of DBA's who know what they are doing. Talking about table locking really is a bit of an irrelevance compared to all the other issues. Clearly the entire "Profile" table or whatever it is, isn't going to be locked every time anyone at all makes a change.
