man lilo

Try running lilo, not only modifying the config file :)

But tell me, why would one want eXPeriment in
general, or as the default-OS in particular?

Cheers,
Tink

hehe firstly, i cant get internet working with Linux, i have a Sis900 NIC and there seems to be a lot of problems with this card.

i play a lot of games, so Windows all the way

i only installed Linux to 'learn' for now, though i may switch over to it once i get used to it.

and so far, Unix/Linux Command Line is far more powerful than M$ Windows hehe but for the reasons above, i have to stick with XP for now.

thanks ill try it out.

do i just type "Lilo" in Terminal ?

Glad I could help >8-)

At some stage you'll get bored with games,
and find that helping nerdlings is the REAL
meaning of having computers ;)

Cheers,
Tink

How I got ADSL working:
1) go to your external adsl box and shut it down. then turn it on.
2) start linux, and wish "Bringing up eth0... [Done]" happens
3) Enjoy!

Works with SOT Linux, Mandrake 8.1 < and RedHat 7.3 <, wich are connected via ethernet card (3com) to external Nokia ADSL/Cable box.
Didn't work with Slackware.

Other thing worth checking is do you have DHCP, and how's you service provider acting.

what exactly is DHCP ?

and thats where the problem lies.

when i run the network wizard i set it to auto IP (as in windows) and when it say "Network must be restarted", it hangs for about 2 mins and then says finshed, will now apply changes.

i click on Apply or OK it then hangs for another 2 mins, i start up Konquerer and it cant connect

my housemate can get it to work running through the same LAN.

but he has a different NIC.

i tried modprobe, insmod, lsmod etc and it detects the card fine.

i have no idea why i cant connect to the net.
