How to set permissions for newly created dirs?

Hi, all.
When i create a directory only user have a read/write permission for it, but not group. I need to edit it manually since group have read-only access and i can't just drop files into newly created dir. It's something about umask doesn't set properly, but what? I found some docs on the web and tried to follow it but with no result. Anyone knows an exact way to fix it?

Check your umask setting by typing umask, it's probably 022. Change it like this:

umask 002

Then create a directory and see if this is what you want. To set it permanently you need to find out in which login script the umask is set. Good candidates are /etc/profile, /etc/bashrc and .bashrc or .bash_profile in your home directory.

Thank you, LasseW, it works now. I did a mistake in /etc/profile when edited it. Thanks again.
