How to log off a user from command line

I want to know how I can log off a person from the command line. For instance, I am under the user "mike1" and another user is logged in called "john2". What would be the command from terminal to log off "john2" from "mike1"? In this case, I would be root and can have root privaliges if needed.

If you are root, you can do su - username and become that user, then log them off from there.

so i can do:

# su - john2
#logout

Will this method bring me to their desktop or just give access through the terminal? Meaning, will it do a normal user switch or will it just use the user account like su (code)?
