how to I add users to my system thru a program I make?

I am trying to set up a free web site server. And I was wondering how I would go about getting the information from the web page and using it to add users to my server. Do I simply just add lines to the password and shadow files(and if so how to I input the passwords, because they are encrypted)? r^2

ok, but how to I get it to do that automaticly? what kind of program can I write to send this data to the shell? r^2

use a bash script.

you want to add users from a web page? use a form that gets info like desired username and desired password, then feeds it to a CGI bash script.
