How to go to OK prompt (OpenBoot PROM)
I have Red Hat Linux installed and I wanted to go to the PROM (like we go to PC's BIOS by hitting F8 key).
How can I get the "ok" prompt where I can use the devalias commands. Thanks, Data Sheet |
I assume you mean how do you type in commands via a terminal console window.
You can open a shell prompt by selecting Applications (the main menu on the panel) => System Tools => Terminal. You can also start a shell prompt by right-clicking on the desktop and choosing Open Terminal from the menu. |
No,Actually I need to go to PROM prompt. where I can see the boot parameters by issuing printenv command.
same as when we start PC and hit F8 to to go BIOS, same way I want to do with Red Hat Linux... Data Sheet |
You're using a SPARC machine right? In all the ones I'm familiar with it's stop+A to drop to the firmware prompt.

provided you are on console and have the Sun keyboard. With a PC keyboard, you can't do that. In that case, boot the system without a keyboard but with a terminal (or PC with null-modem cable and realterm or PuTTY) connected to the A serial port and issue a break. The system should drop to ok prompt (getting proper break from a PC may be an issue. With VT510 I use the break works perfectly). |
