How to find the no of files cached in linux at the time of open & loading folder

Hey guys when we do enter on a folder it take some time for loading the folder depending on the no of entries in the folder . If the folder has more entries it take more time to load and if less no of entries then correspondingly less time . the delay in loading the folder varies due to reading of the folder entries in advance . SO what i want to know is that what is the MAX no of entries read in advance while opening a folder in linux and also how can we calculate this .

Thanks and Regards

Not enough info, IMO. How are you browsing the filesystems? With some Gnome / KDE / other file browser? Or you're using CLI?

Nothing is read in advance when you first open a folder. The fact that it is slow shows it is doing physical I/O.
Once they are in the dcache, you're good to go.
Readahead is used for files - using the page cache.

So if it the case then can we figure out what is the max no of entries that are readahead once the folder has been opened and the physical i/o is done and the entries are in dcache . Also if we can figure out then what is the way .

In simple words if i want to summarize the post then it would be like this :

In linux ie ubuntu with gnome browser. How many max no of files are readahead during openning and loading of a folder . And how to calculate that .
