how to find latest drivers?
 
i've got a laptop with an intel 855 chipset and i've been using the i810 xorg driver and the intel8x0snd driver for sound. i'm guessing the sound driver is pretty new since it came with kernel 2.6.14.3, but i was hoping that intel or somebody would have something less generic for my graphics controller(i810 works fine, but i dont have an i810 chipset). i went out to intel.com and navigated to a section about my chipset's graphics controller, then to a subsection about linux: http://support.intel.com/support/gra...inux/index.htm . they don't seem to have any real drivers for it, but they linked to the i810 driver under a heading about the i810 chipset. is i810 the best i can get for this chipset right now?

here's what really confuses me: there is a heading about the 82852/82855 chipset on this page and under it a link labeled "Obtaining and configuring the graphics driver for Linux*". when i went to it, i got this wierd faq where they talk about "the graphics driver for linux" without mentioning a name or linking to anything. then seem to claim that the xfree86 project is their driver:

doesn't xfree86 need a driver for this graphics controller though?

further down the page they identify the drive as the standard i810 one, but note that that is seriously old. Xfree86 3.3.6?? Natural evolution of the driver will have taken place over the years to the driver you're currently using under xorg-x11.

i still don't see where they identify it as i810, is that on the faq page?
