how to find CPU and IO bound processes

Hi

I am working on a project to find how the CPU and IO bound processes affect the execution time of a program differently.
How do I see how many IO bound processes and how many CPU bound processes are currently running on the system?
According to recent defination the load average value gives the total number of ready-to-run and waiting-for-io processes . Where can i look for the split of this value?

Thank You.
