Do you have an operating system on the system now ? If you do, what's it's name? How many drives do you have on the system?
Uh. . . we may need some more info about your system before that question can be answered.
FIRST: the iso is on a different logical partition, but on thesame drive.
SECOND: the iso is a different drive, a slave drive that is.
Actually I know how to mount them, and how to access them. What I don' t know is how do I get the option to mount a different partition or hard drive, which will then be used as the source for installation. Will downloading the install cd iso work for this?
for 101MABUS10:
I'll have to give this a little thought.
Usually I just buy one of those CD's with the system I want and run install from CD. Heck they cost less than a couple of bucks and one can add some cash as a donation to the FSF. Haven't ever attempted to install from file on a HD or network. If I was to do it thought, I would first move the install distribution to a platter other than the one I wanted to install the OS into. Then issue the command (what every that may be) to start the installation. Once started I would go to custom installation and point the installation to the platter I wanted it to go into.
One could also create a floppy boot disk on from/on another system and start the install that way. Do you have a RW CD/DVD where you could burn a CD or DVD? That seems like the easyest way to do it. Once you got that done just a reboot from CD/DVD works great.
I'll have to check documentation on the way you want to do it. I'll get back later.
that would work if the boot cd or boot disk that you have will give you an option to do so. In the case of suse 9.3, Disk 1 of hte install medai does not give you that option. Neither does grub, although you can not use grub since you will still be installting the OS that you have.
