How to change font and font size in fluxbox installed along with xbmcbuntu
Hello. A while ago I setup an old PC with xbmcbuntu and hooked it up to my living room TV. I've always wanted to be able to bring up a browser, so today I did some Googling and found this helpful site:
Following those instructions, I am now able to bring up Firefox on my Kodi installation, but the font size in address bar, window title, and menus is quite small and ugly. My system doesn't have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. I created that file with the contents specified in step 4 of that page, but that caused Kodi to not start. Luckily, I still had SSH access, so I could log in, delete that file, reboot, and now I can start Kodi again.
I've done some more Googling, played around with the files in ~/.fluxbox , but no luck. Does anybody know how to set the font size and/or change to a nicer font in Fluxbox without affecting Kodi?
i'm unsure where you want to increase font size?
in firefox, but not the rest of the installation?
in that case it's in firefox preferences => content.
the rest of firefox' UI is controlled by gtk settings - depending on your ff version, gtk2 or gtk3.
fire up your control panel settings thingymagick (if you don't have one, you can install e.g. lxappearance) and change the font size there.
nothing to do with fluxbox.
Thanks for your reply, ondoho. I'm looking to increase the font size in the window title, tab bar, address bar, bookmarks menu, and configuration menu. The text within the website displayed by Firefox is fine. I tried preferences => content, but it didn't affect anything, and I think that is just the default font if the website doesn't have any CSS.
Thanks for the suggestion of lxappearance. I installed and ran that. It has a font tab, but then it only has these options:
- Enable Anti-aliasing (enabled)
- Enable Hinting (enabled)
- Hinting Style (Full)
- Sub pixel geometry (None)
I failed to notice the "Default font" at the bottom on the "Widget" page. I changed that, and that did the trick. I actually didn't notice it until I manually changed the font in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and changed gtk-font-name="Serif 32" . This didn't fix Firefox, but fixed lxappearance so that I could read it properly. When I made the change using lxappearance , it also changed the font in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini which is what fixed Firefox.
Everything is fixed, except the window titles, which I don't care about. Thanks.
