how to change default browser in Gnome?
 

title said it all. current default = mozilla, but i much prefer opera and have it installed and running.

id love to know how to change it to my default web browser.

Foot Menu=>Applications=>Desktop Preferences=>Advanced=>Preferred Applications (Web Browser tab) should have what you're looking for.

I love Linux... if there's not at least 2 ways to do something, something is wrong.....

Either of these methods will work (since they're doing the same thing anyway). In GConf editor, desktop=>gnome=>applications=>browser=>exec is the setting to change.

thanks, think i did it right. no option to save, and only had to change the word from mozilla to opera. ill find out.

I found the above to be helpful, in a way. i.e. I got to where the change was possible but I use mozilla mail and am wondering where/what to change/how so that when I click on a link in that app opera is activated and not mozilla/etc....

Not going to happen, unless there's a setting in Mozilla to change it-- which there is, even if it's only via a plugin like MozEx or editing user.js by hand. Mozilla's integration with itself is not going to change no matter what you set as the default browser in your DE. I'd check the Mozilla site; after a fair amount of searching their organizational scheme, you should be able to find some instructions to point you in the right direction.
