Hi,

I am new to linux and would like to add a new a few logical partitions.I have a dual boot machine with win/linux.I resized a windows drive and using partition manager formatted it to make it "ext2" type of disk.The size of this new partition is about 5GB.

Now I went to linux and ran this command fdisk -l.Here is the output.

I think the new partition is

/dev/hda9 4112 4749 5124703+ 83 Linux

I want to use this partition in linux environment to add a few logical partitions of various sizes like
a) 101 Mb
b) 26 Mb


How can I do this ?

/dev/hda9 is already a logical partition within the extended partition /dev/hda5. As are all of /dev/hda6-10. If you need to break these up further without repartitioning w/fdisk, you could you LVM.

You can only create partitions from unallocated space. You can use the app GNU parted to move, resize existing partitions.

The maxium number of partitions that you can have in linux I believe is 16.
