minicom is a linux serial communication program.

XavierP 10-05-2004 10:48 AM

As is telnet (Hyper Terminal is just a frontend to Telnet). Try opening a console and using the normal telnet command.

Hyperterminal is a simple communications application that can be used as a terminal emulator or for communications like Procomm or Kermit

I guess it could be a frontend for telnet if using a dialup service. However in this case SiLiCoN needs a linux terminal emulator application using RS-232.

Or I do not know how to use telnet via a serial comm port.

normaly you acces a router via his gateway adress in most cases 192.168.2.1 OR .100

guys i can always telnet to the router and do exactly what can be done. But i was just wondering if there is a built in hyper-terminal LIKE application in linux so that router can be controlled through the computer directly (not via telnet)....

as michaelk said "minicom" does solve my purpose but telnetting into the router remotely is not what i m looking for ...

thanks

Hi All
SiLiCoN is looking for apogram that can be used with linux OS, does job similar to Hyperterminal in Windows,,ie he can configure the router through his Linux OS, and he wants his box to be directly connected to the router or switch.

He is not looking to configure his router remotly.

I thought a router would be a remote device...

So tell me guys...... was there an answer to the original request? From my understanding of things, which isn't much, minicom is the utility to use. My problem is I don't know I to install it and get it to work. I am new to Linux so I am looking for help.

http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man1/minicom.1.html
Similar to
http://www.linux.com/howtos/Remote-S...-minicom.shtml

Its probably already installed.
