how ssmtp email client can receive email delivery

I am using ssmtp email client for sending email and it works fine but I want to know how can I check if it sends email correctly or not for example if it can not send email return an error(for example in $? ENV Var) for taking an action. as you can see when I send email to a fake receiver ssmtp returns 0 again the same as when it sends to an existing email:
ssmtp < /root/ssmtptest.txt
echo $?
ssmtp < /root/ssmtptest.txt
echo $?
