How much Linux consumes memory?
I know there is many different distributions around, and some use less and some use more.
However, as I have kinda with my Mandy 8.2 I would like to know how much it uses memory/cpu while in GNOME and how much in KDE and BlackBox? Oh, BTW how to quit X in Mandrake? :p PS. How much Slackware takes memory in Gnome? PPS. My friend told Winblows XP takes about 72 mbit RAM!!! :o And How I can check that by myself? :Pengy: |
dude, have you searched. this type of stuff is mentioned all the time. there is really no correct answer to this for memory consumption question. it can all vary on what system your running on.. etc.
to quit X in mandy, logout with the logout feature or try ctrl-alt-backspace. but sometimes that will respawn and restart X, which also has been mentioned a million times here. and a way for you to do it would be to load up gnome on slack and check it ?? |
Tricky, sorry for my mighty stupidness, oh my Lord but...
How to check it once in gnome? |
To check how much memory you are using, free
man free will show you all your options on that. There is also an applet for resources, that might satisfy your need. Cool |
Just use top

Hi Eits0,
In KDE, I use KSystemGuard to check the memory usage (click on the system tab I think!) There are a variety of memory/cpu-status progs for KDE - checked their website? ;o) not too sure about gnome tho, cos I don't use it... HTH, All the best, Chad |
