How memory is managed in Linux?

Hello all

I have seen on our Linux production servers the memory consumption at 90% and above which is very rare on our Solaris servers. I heard that in Linux the memory consumption could be at 100% (some times) and the memory is completely managed in a different way when compared to other *nix platforms. Also I heard that the Kenrel manages page in/out's as desired and the only concern should be the swap space it seems. If the swap space consumption is also high ( I am not sure about the range of consumption in terms of %) on top of the RAM's consumption then only one has to worry it seems.

In this regard I am searching for some good documents and links on the net to know more about the "Memory management in Linux" and I appreciate your help.

Thanks

It is not unusual, that memory is usage is at nearly 100%.

Hello all
Thanks for all your time and suggestions. I understand the way in which Linux manages its memory. No doubt cetrainly it is an efficient way to manage its memory than at least Solaris.

Nice day.
